"Pardon me, please!" begged the mouse. "Let me go now, and I promise I will repay your kindness someday."

The lion found the mouse's request amusing, considering that such a diminutive creature could not possibly assist him in any way. Nevertheless, he decided to release the mouse and let her go.

Several days later, while the lion was prowling the forest in search of prey, he became ensnared in a hunter's trap. The lion's furious roar echoed through the forest, but the mouse recognized the sound and quickly located the lion struggling in the trap. Without hesitation, the mouse scurried over to one of the thick ropes that bound the lion and began to gnaw on it until it snapped. Before long, the lion was free.

"You scoffed when I said I would repay you," said the mouse. "But now you can see that even the smallest of creatures can aid the mightiest of beasts."
